The harmonic for voltage and current, lower power factor and lower power efficiency of public power system is serious increasingly because of much big power electronic equipment in recent years. Usually, reactive compensation, filters for active and reactive were used to improve power system in order to control harmonic and improve power factor of power system. But the active power factor correction technique is researched because it is an effective method to control harmonic and improve power factor by recent years. The development for power factor correction both here and abroad in recent years is summarized and the good and bad characteristics for reactive and active power factor correction is analyzed briefly and the basic principle and control methods of active power factor correction is analyzed in detail after reading a mass of literatures both here and abroad. The main Boost converter and ICE2PCS01 controller which based on CCM control are selected and a high power factor switching power supply which has a wide range of voltage input, stable DC voltage output is designed after topologies of main circuit and control methods were compared. The working principle of the circuit and each element parameters are analyzed detailedly, and the important test results of the switching power supply are attained.Lastly, the high power factor switching power supply is transplantted to the Inverter MIG welder, and the PFC function modules are implemented test for the feasibility and reliability in the technology platform, the whole of the improvement program is provided and the prototype is debugged. Debugging results show that the APFC system based on ICE2PCS01 has the advantage performance and can achieve a fixed output of 400V DC voltage in the universal input range of AC 100~240V. The Inverter MIG welder which increase the PFC function can achieve the requirements of sinusoidal input current, low harmonic content, high power factor and green power to meet the international.
