In this paper, Liuli River in Huairou District of Beijing was built up as a demonstration site of soil bioengineering. Salix cheilophila Schneid. and Salix alba var. tristis were selected as plant material. Soil bioengineering measures as live staking, rooted cutting, brush mattress, wattle fence and fascines were used to protect the riparian zone which is 150m long.In this test, the plant performance of soil bioengineering, foolding tolerance and selecting the branch diameter of living cuttings were monitored. And after 2 years of constrction, environmental effects was inspected. Simulated rainfall experiment was used to study on the effect of soil bio-engineering to reduce slope erosion. The result shows that, the survival rate and germination of the two kinds of plant material was better the basal diameter and plant height of the new branches reached a certain level which was in good condition. They were suited for the local environment of riparian zone. Salix cheilophila Schneid. and Salix alba var. tristis had better foolding tolerance. The most suitable rang of living cutting diameter of Salix cheilophila Schneid. was from 1.5cm to 3.0cm and Salix alba var. tristis was from 3.0cm to 5.0cm. After the application of bio-engineering measures, an new environment was formed and it allowed new species to invasive. The biodiversity was increasing. The small environment of riparian zone was improving.. The slope protection measures had an better effect to regulate the teperature and humidity and to improving Thermo Hygrometric Index. The biomass of leaves and roots about two plant material were growing well. And it had better reinforcement and anchoring effect. The runoff of living staking and root cutting is more than the one of fascines and brush mattress and the sediment production is less than theirs. Compared with the bare slope, every soil bio-engineering measure had significantly improved of reducing runoff. As the increases of rain intensity, the total sediment of slope was also growing. And after the implementation of soil bio-engineering, it had a good effect to improve the slope erosion. Soil bioengineering was used to repair the damage of riparian of Beijing. Suitable soil bioengineering measure and plant material was selected. The applicaton of soil bioengineering had better eco-efficiency and to reduced slope erosion. It played an important role for the application of soil bioengineering of river in Beijing.
