Along with the rapid development of the highway transportation in China, the road traffic accidents occur frequently while the mileage of highway is growing. Though analysis of the cause of traffic accidents, it is found that speeding is the main reason of the accidents and important factor of increasing the severity of the accidents. Set effective speed control facilities in the accident-prone sections can decrease the vehicle speed significantly, reduce traffic accidents caused by the speeding radically and guarantee the traffic flow and safety. Now there are some speed control facilities widely used in China, include speed limit signs and mandatory calming measures, some of them are less effective, some can slow the vehicle speed effectively, but they have negative impact on driving comfort and may destroy the vehicle's stability, they are still noisy and the construction cost is high. The optical illusion deceleration markings designed by the optical illusion principle of human eyes are based on the psychological characteristics of drivers, can guide the drivers to reduce the speed initiatively and achieve good speed control effect, it has some advantages such as low cost, long life, don't reduce the driving comfort and no noise, and it has been widely applied both at home and abroad. However, due to lack of appropriate standards or guidelines to guide, at the current stage, the optical illusion deceleration markings are designed and pavemented empirically, lead to some issues arising from the use of optical illusion markings. In the study, the simulation experiments and road tests are combined, on this basis of detailed analysis, propose the parameters' calculation method of chevron markings, and the deceleration effect of the markings with different parameters are tested. Selected 39 subjects drivers, choose some groups of markings which show better effect on the simulation platform, and finally choose the best form of markings through the actual road test. Not only ensure the credibility of slowing evaluation experiments, but also reduce the unnecessary workload in the real road experiments. The research achievements can provide some theoretical basis and reference for the road administration department and the facility design department.
