Fiber Reinforced Plastic/Polymer (abbr.FRP) is a kind of high performance composite material. The strengthening structure with FRP sheets is bonding FRP sheets to the surface of structural elements with an epoxy matrix. Compared with other methods, FRP strengthening systems have the merits of high strength, high active, ease of application and good corrosion resistance and so on. External sticking of fiber reinforced polymer(FRP)plates or sheets has emerged as a popular method for the strengthening of Masonry structures and expanding quickly. In order to make full use of this technique in the field of brick masonry structure, and put forward design guidelines for strengthening masonry structure with FRP sheets, the experimental and theoretical research was undertaken.The major contributions of the work presented in this thesis are listed as follows:1. Based on the existing experimental research and engineering application,take an analysis and comparison of existing shear strengthen model using existing experimental data,point out its rationality and deficiency.2. For the diagonal band reinforcement model, The action of Composite strips is similar to that of the diagonal braces in the turss analytical model and the shear of rcecontributed by FRP strips is mainly coming from the action of tension bars in the analytical model. For the FRP reinforced masonry walls with horizontal bars, similar to the stirrups in the concrete beam, However,it play little important to the anchorage of FRP horizontal bands.3. Based on experimental and theoretical sutdy,a simplified analytical model and computing method is provided The computing method concenred maybe tentatively used in the retrofitting design of masonry walls made of solid clay bricks. The formula is relatively simple and the calculated and experimental data can be a good fit. The formula to meet the needs of the actual project,and it can used for designers.4. Based on the actual strain of FRP in the reinfroced walls, consider the type of FRP, adhesive means, anchorage and so on, given the recommended value of FRP strain.5.
