In view of the commonality, universality and simultaneity of power system, once the accident of transmission grid happens, it will lead to the great influence, fast spread velocity and serious consequence. The safety of transmission grid is related to the national safety and social stability. And it is the survival and development root of electrical enterprise. The safety assessment of transmission grid is an important step of power safety production and management. Whether the method of safety assessment is correct can affect the safety assessment work and it is of great significance for increasing the safety runtime of transmission grid.First, this paper follows the guidance of system safety engineering and analyzes all kinds of factors which affect the safety of transmission grid. On the basis of the principal such as the systematization, hierarchy, scientificalness and so on, From the view of the people, machine and environment in the operational process of transmission grid, the system analysis method is used to analyze the running of transmission grid in detail and construct the assessment objective architecture by combining with state safety regulations and standards. And this provides the underlying basis for achieving the scientificity, standardization and rationalization of assessment results.Secondly, the classification quantification for the qualitative index is implemented. This makes the assessment process no qualitative index and does not affect the assessment process and results. At the same time, the whole assessment objective architecture is analyzed by using factor analysis. The public factors of many assessment objective variables are explored to simply the complex relationship which exists in the assessment objective.Finally, the nonlinear mapping of neural network is used and the assessment objective architecture constructed is combined. The initial data of safety conditions at various stages of operation of transmission grid provided by North China branch of State Grid is gathered. The dynamic safety assessment model of BP neural network is constructed to apply to the transmission grid and verify its correctness and practicability.A novel method, which combines system safety engineering, factor analysis and neural network, is discussed. It is applied to safety assessment for transmission grid. This method can achieve dynamic analysis and scientific prediction for the system safety status of transmission grid. It can provide an effective way and method for the safety production, management and decision making of electrical enterprise.
