Tower is an important load-bearing part of wind turbine. The dimension of tower is increasing with the increase of wind turbine power. Quality of tower is half of total wind turbine and production cost is 15% of total system. The structure strongth of tower is given serious attention because of the tower collepsed accidents. Research on tower structure is important for reliability and safty of wind turbine.Interior tower analysis method depends on purchasing and reversing foreign technical data as yet. Research contents are limited on static strength,mode and some details analysis. The methods are sketchy.A large-scale wind turbine tower was taken as an example.Traditional FEA of tower structure was resreached deeply based on Germanischer Lloyd Guideline. Simplified calculation of transverse vibration was summarized refer to Euro code.â‘ The static strength of tower was analyzed. The FE model of tower was constructed using solid elments and shell elments especially after studied tower design and load calculation method. Tower structure can be optimized based on the results of FEA of models under serious characteristic load cases..â‘¡Top flange detail of tower was analyzed. Deformation of rings and balls of yaw bearing will happen when transmiting load and lead to nonlinear distribution of load.Three FEA models of top flange were constructed based on the comprehensive use of non-linear contact analysis, bolt preload simulation, rigid surface and gap element. Analysis results were contrasted and researched.Method of using gap element and rigid surface to simulate ball was new line for engineering analysis.â‘¢The nature frquency of tower was analyzed. Dynamic equations were constructed based on basic theory of mode analysis. The FEA model of tower was constructed using shell element and beam element especially. Door and basement of tower were considered in these models.The results were contrasted and studied.â‘£A new simple calculation method of transverse vibration was brought up refer to Euro code. Damages caused by transverse vibration of tower with and without nacelle were studied.Reasons for differences of damages were analyzed.
