Wind power is a new power with green has focused by many people in the world. Tower is the support structure of the wind turbine. Its stiffness, strength, stable and fatigue strength of the tower determine the properties of the wind turbine. In this paper, the FEM software ANSYSis used to calculate mode analysis of the tower. It can support the wind turbine tower design.Research the design specifications of wind turbine tower, the mode analysis and calculation is the first, the other is the safety study of the wind turbine tower, the main task is the tower welds strength calculation, buckling strength of tower section and the strength of the tower connections.The target of the mode analysis of the wind turbine tower with head mass is to get the first vibration frequency of the tower, to avoid the excitation of the wind turbine in work statue, and to avoid the resonance with the wind turbine. In this paper, Block-Lanczos method has been applied to calculate the tower mode with numerical simulation, in the simulation process, tower as shell elements, the wind turbine head as a mass point, and the stiffness of the base take as springs.Evaluation of wind turbine tower security contains three sections, they are strength of the tower welds, buckling strength of the tower sections and strength of the tower connections. The tower welds include of tower tube welds and the door frame welds of tower. According to the tower structural characteristics is thin-walled cylindrical, the buckling calculation theory focused on the circled thin wall structure. Tower connection means flanges and high performance bolts, so the tower connection strength assessment should to consider strength of high performance bolts and strength flanges.
