Soda residue is the waste residue from the soda producing, largely piling up of the soda residue becomes the "Soda Residue Hill"."The #3 soda residue storage yard is the last "Soda Residue Hill" in Tianjin Port, which of the area is 0.7km2 and the height is nearly 18m. It has hindering the development of Tianjin Port and the construction of the International Container Transport Center severely. So how to dispose of this hill is imperative. In recent years, the soda residue has been used in replacing the engineering soil, bringing huge economic and social benefits.When the soda residue used in geotechnical engineering, the first problem facing is the choice of the models which is mainly hydraulic automobile transportation and pipeline hydraulic transportation (pumping) presently to transfer the soda residue. Using the model of pipeline hydraulic transportation to transfer the #3 hill has its obvious advantages,but in reality the study of the soda residue slurry's flow characteristics in the pipe is few, so when using this model, many obstacles need to be overcome for lack of theoretical parameter. This paper studies the soda residue slurry's flow characteristics in the pipe through lab test, mainly having the following points: 1) Analysis the characteristics of the soda residue's solid-liquid mixture and then determine its flow pattern; 2) Search the different concentrations of soda residue slurry's sedimentation characteristics and laws of; 3) Calculate the best transportation concentration of soda residue slurry; 4) Analyze the soda residue slurry's pipeline resistance loss; 5) Deduce soda residue slurry's transfer pressure in theory.Among previous study, applying the mixture which combined the soda residue with soil(clay) to geotechnical engineering is very few. This paper has a extensive study on this mixture. Firstly, In order to evaluate the properties'similitude between soda residue and the general engineering soil, this paper tests the soda residue's basic physical indicators and mechanical property by lab test. At the same time combing with on-site field test, this paper tests and analyzes the mixture's bearing capacity of foundation and so on in the field. The test result indicates that this mixture has the property of general engineering soil and meets the need of general engineering.Finally, This paper uses the universal finite-element software ABAQUS to analyze the two layered ground's bearing capacity which has thin hard crust.
