The constant velocity joint driveshaft assembly is an important part of automobile transmission, it can transmit angular velocity when there is a angle between the input shaft and output shaft. However, due to the usage, manufacture, assembly and other reasons, there is a gap between the various parts of constant velocity universal joint drive shaft assembly, and the gap, in particular the circumferential clearance is the main reason which lead to vibration and noise during the travelling. At present there is little research on the circumferential clearance of constant velocity joints, only a few cases are doing research on sliding end of the drive shaft assembly statically. So it is very necessary and meaningful to research on the static and dynamic circumferential clearance of the constant velocity universal joint drive shaft assembly.Based on principles of analytic geometry, structure and motion of the constant velocity universal joint drive shaft assembly, and a large number of domestic and foreign theoretical literature, the circumferential clearance model of the assembly and two ends were established, the formula of static circumferential clearance angle was deduced, the changing law of circumferential clearance angle with swing angle and rotating angle was obtained by using Matlab software, the measures of reducing the circumference at both ends and assembly were proposed, the relationships between the circumferential clearance of the drive shaft assembly, assembling and precision were discussed, and the right assembly way is given. Then the circumferential clearance of the constant velocity universal joint drive shaft assembly and the two ends under dynamic conditions was proposed the first time, the existence possibility of dynamic circumferential clearance was demonstrated, the reasons were discussed, the model was established and solved based on the static research, the circumferential clearance angle was measured on the test bed, which was developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.The results show that the six fluctuations of circumferential clearance angle of the fixed and sliding end under static condition lead to the vibration and noise during the travelling, increasing manufacturing tolerances (reducing the manufacturing precision, difficulty and cost) appropriately in the sliding end can reduce the vibration and noise during the travelling, dynamic is more beneficial than static in reducing the vibration and noise, because circumferential clearance angle is always 0 under dynamic condition and actual circumferential clearance angle and the fluctuation range were slightly reduced compared to static. These are not only breakthrough on the theory of constant velocity joint at home and abroad, but also theoretical significance on the assembly quality, management practices and use qualities.
