The oscilloscope is one of the most commonly used to measure instruments in measurement industry and communications industry; it can be used to display the measured signal waveform and parameters, and also has been widely used in teaching, research and industries. As the rapid development of the electronics and computer technology, using computer technology has become the trend, so the virtual instrument technology is the product of both. The birth of the concept of it making the design of an oscilloscope have a qualitative change, it breaks through the traditional instruments'limitations, such as the unstable, big volume, much consumed. Virtual digital oscilloscopes mix the software and the hardware together, and the instrument panel designed by the software technology can realize all sorts of functions of oscilloscope, such as waveform display, parameter measurement, etc. On this basis, the virtual digital oscilloscopes expand on the function of the traditional oscilloscope; also the signal can be processed, analyzed and storied.Virtual digital oscilloscope is constituted by data acquisition, data processing and waveform display. Data acquisition can be realized by hardware, other two parts by software. This article mainly completes software component, the virtual oscilloscope is a PXI digital oscilloscopes that based on LabVIEW, the principle of the oscilloscope refers the universal double channel digital storage oscilloscope, then expands the instrument analysis and processing function. The development tools of the whole development process are LabVIEW8.20 of American NI company, Visual c ++ 6.0 and WinDriver.The article firstly introduces the origin of virtual instrument and the developing situation of domestic and foreign. Then it introduces the design scheme of the PXI virtual digital oscilloscopes that based on LabVIEW from hardware and software, including PXI data acquisition system, virtual digital oscilloscopes soft panel design principles and solution. Thirdly, it elaborates the building process of the LabVIEW data acquisition card driver, the software that this part uses is Visual c ++ 6.0 and WinDriver. Fourthly, the paper introduces how to design the soft panel of virtual oscilloscope using LabVIEW, which can realize data acquisition, waveform display, senior measurement, parameter measurement, data storage and playback. The last work is to build up each part program, form complete virtual oscilloscope system, and debug and record experimental results verify the stability of the virtual oscilloscope system.
