The transportation on ice cover is an important method and the people living in the cold regions always use the empirical formula to instruct the transportation engineering on ice cover. Because of the complexity of the ice characters and the transportation environment, it's almost impossible to get the exact ice cover bearing capacity by only use of empirical formulas in different conditions. So, there is much practical significance to research the use of numerical simulation in transportation on ice cover. Based on the empirical formula, this paper does some researches on how to use numerical simulation in the transportation on ice cover, and compute some examples in different conditions. This paper introduces the mechanic characters of ice and the important factors from environment and ice cover which will affect the bearing capacity. Based on reading and analyzing many materials, this paper sums up many various guiding formulas of transportation on ice cover. On the basis of field material data of transportation on ice cover from Chinese northeast regions, this paper computes different of instances by the use of formulas, and screen out the better formula as recommended formula by comparing the computing results to the field data. Moreover, this paper also computes the same instances by ANSYS Finite Element software, and gets the conclusion that the numerical simulation in transportation on ice cover is feasible, which is useful for the further research. In addition, this paper summarizes the strong points of numerical simulation, and gives the future prospect of numerical simulation in the use of transportation on ice cover.
