With the increasing improvement of ship electric automation, it is an urgent need for the study of the network of general information management system for large and middle ships. The system can achieve the distributed control in each subsystem of ship equipment, and implement the information share and general management. The monitoring system of steering-engine in this essay is the subsystem of the network general information management system. As it is known, ship steering engine is the key equipment for manipulating navigation to guarantee the safety for voyages. The research of monitoring ship steering-engine has significant meanings of theory and practice. This essay could be a reference for the further study.The monitoring system of ship steering-engine consists of steering wheel, rudder angleindicator, electric compass, industrial control computer, data acquisition card and software system, which can simulate the operation of left steering-engine, right steering-engine, monitor of ship navigation and operation status of steering-engine.According to the subject, the network of ship steering-engine structure diagram is constructed. Then the composition and working theory of electro-hydraulic steering engine is analyzed to make the theoretical base for system research. Based on Visual C++ 6.0 as developing environment, this software applies various techniques such as virtual instrument, object-oriented data base, Flash, Photoshop to design the program of data acquisition, data base operation and an alarm. Finally, the operation parameters of each functional module are tested in the ship steering-engine simulation platform to achieve the real-time monitoring for the motor of steering-engine, rudder angle and ship navigation. This system has the functions of real-time data storing, searching, printing, etc. Also it is user friendly. This system provides a platform for researching and teaching of ship and ocean subject.
