The performance of hydraulic vehicle is superior, but the fuel consumption is relatively high. How to improve the vehicles'power and efficiency, needs the reasonable match between engine and transmission system. The paper mainly aims at hydraulic torque converter for matching optimizationThe circulatory diameter of hydraulic torque converter is optimized through studying the matching of engine and hydraulic converter. Based on the characteristics of the engine and hydraulic torque converter, the input and output characteristics of both are analyzed. Choose starting torque, power output coefficient and unit fuel consumption coefficients as evaluation indexes of the matching, optimize the parameter of torque converter.On the basis of the matching of engine and torque converter, consider the influence factor of the transmission. The engine together with torque converter and transmission is regarded as a system, optimizing and improving the parameters of torque converter through the vehicle matching according to the automatic variable transmission and continuously variable transmission. And the locking rule of torque converter is considered. The transmission ratio, the scope and the corresponding control strategy of two kinds is calculated and analyzed. The circulatory diameter of hydraulic torque converter is the design variable. Select from zero to 100km/h acceleration time and GB 18352.3-2005 fuel driving cycles as power and economy evaluation indexes. Optimize the parameter of torque converter through establishing the unified objective function. The result show that power and economy have improved compared the optimized circulatory diameter to the initial diameter.According to design theory of hydraulic torque converter, the torque ratio and efficiency in original characteristics of hydraulic torque converter are not influenced by the changing circulatory diameter. Optimize the parameter of torque converter according to the theory in the paper. Establish the flow field model of torque converter, and calculate the original characteristics of optimized and initial circulatory diameter in three-dimensional flow field method. The results show that the relative error of original characteristics between the changed and the initial is very small. It illustrates that the torque ratio and efficiency in the basic characteristics maintain invariable basically when the circulatory diameter changed.
