The typical powertrain of a wheel loader consist of diesel engine, torque converter, transmission and drive axle, and it is one of the most important parts of a wheel loader. The overall performance of a wheel loader depends on the matching of the powertrain parameters. Therefore, it is a meaningful topic to study on parameters matching of wheel loader powertrain.First of all, this paper does an analysis on the hydromechanical drive system of the ZL50wheel loader, and then put forward some improvement and design requirements based on the existing defect of the ZL50prototype powertrain. Besides, the engine power has been calculated according to the improvement and design requirements, the engine model and the basic parameters of working device hydraulic system also have been determined.This paper has proposed a concept of constant power interval based on6CT8.3-C215turbocharged diesel engine. With the analysis of the existing matching method between diesel engine and hydraulic torque converter, a new matching method which is called middle point of high efficiency area matching method is proposed oriented towards turbocharged diesel engine and hydraulic torque converter. With the effective diameter of the hydraulic torque converter as the design variable, this paper optimizes the matching between diesel engine and hydraulic torque converter, and calculates the transmission speed ratio.Dividing the wheel loader into five parts which is diesel engine, hydraulic torque converter, gearbox and drive axle, whole machine and external environment, the mathematical model and MATLAB/Simulink simulation model of every part has been established. Attaching all the MATLAB/Simulink simulation models, it is the simulation system of the wheel loader powertrain. With the simulation system, this paper analyses the working performance of the wheel loader powertrain under the shoveling and loading material condition, forward and lifting condition and full load and recession condition. The simulation results show that it is a contradiction between dynamic performance and fuel economy of wheel loader, so designers should consider the priority in the design stage. The main work of this paper provides a method for parameters reasonable matching of wheel loader powertrain. Besides, the simulation system of the wheel loader powertrain build in this paper could provide a prediction of the performance of the wheel loader powertrain during design stage.
