With the rapid development of the construction of water conservancy and hydropower projects, more and more of the hydropower station is located in the western alpine areas in China, its development conditions are becoming more difficult. As a significant part of hydropower station, surge tank belongs to the scope of the underground structure project. At present, the surge tank structure analysis is the main means of the load structure method and stratum structure method due to the diversity, complexity of its load and boundary in rock mass. In this paper, through the method of structural mechanics and finite difference software FLAC3D for structure analysis on surge tank of hydropower station.The main contents of this paper are followed:(1) Utilize the method of structural mechanics to calculate and analyze the force on the shaft and base plant of surge tank structure.(2) By using the finite difference software FLAC3D for stress analysis on surge tank area. Calculate and analyze the structure under different working conditions.(3) Analyze the results of the two kinds of calculation methods, get the regularity and difference between them.(4) Put forward some recommendations for engineering design and scientific research as a reference.
