The technology of automatic mechanical transmission (AMT) amounts to increase the clutch actuator, selecting actuator and shifting actuator based on the manual transmission. Compared with other types of automatic transmission, AMT has greater market potential. The control of clutch is one of the key and difficult points in the technology of AMT. It directly affects the vehicle ride comfort and fuel economy.Now apply the AMT technology in hybrid vehicle. The original transmission control unit TCU and vehicle control unit HCU will be integrated together. The content and difficulty of the clutch control has increased due to the multiple power sources for hybrid systems. The clutch should be controlled not only in the process of starting and the shifting but also in the process of automobile driving mode switching.This paper introduces the structure and principle of AMT system in the single axle parallel hybrid electric bus. First, analyze the clutch’s structure and characteristics and obtain the relation of clutch displacement and pressing force. The author also puts forwards that the clutch actuator may adopt the form of a motor driving with gas booster; Secondly, Study the control method of clutch. Based on the analysis of control requirements, evaluation indexes and influence of the clutch and ultimately determine to use the segmented method to control clutch by comparing several typical clutch control methods. Then according to the control strategy of the clutch, establish the clutch model and simulate in the computer by using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Finally, the bench test and vehicle test. The purpose is to prove the feasibility of the clutch actuator and correctness of the clutch control model.By comparing and analyzing the results of simulation and vehicle test, the following can be drawn:No matter the clutch control model is in the starting, shifting or the mode switching, the simulation results can satisfy the control requirements of clutch such as opening quickly and thoroughly, closing smoothly, and so on. Although the vehicle test results have a certain deviation with simulation results, they can achieve the overall goal of clutch control.
