With the rapid development of aging currently, how to reflect the concept of positive aging in this society, and it should be recommended for old people to live a healthy, rich and colorful life.Previous studies in our studio, the researches on residential area of social activity needs of the aged have been done, showed that old people were not fitted to the environmental landscape however good or bad. Thus, based on previous research, we tried to illuminate what outdoor environments were required by mass field investigation.The purposes of this paper are:1. to make clear the social significance of outdoor public space.2. to find out the aged special requirements for outdoor public space and the relationship between their behavior and corresponding space.3. to propose design and methods of the outdoor public space which are suited to old people.There were mainly three steps in this study:1. preliminary investigation, which was mainly based on the distance and functional requirements of outdoor public space according to old people.2. thorough investigation, which studied the correspondence between behavior and space of eight parks though a large number of surveys.3. Focus on investigation, which was based on the aged theme park-Wanshou Park, and studied the relationship among the aged, activity space and activities.Lastly, we found that the advantages and disadvantages of old people activities in the outdoor public space through the survey, and concluded that design principle and design method which are fitted to aged people. Token together, it exerts positive effect on the utilization of outdoors public space of old people, and the reform and future development of the space.
