As one of the most common public buildings, bridge has been increasingly laid stress on “beautiful”, as with other buildings in urban space environment. People also put forward further “artistic” requirements of the bridge. In another word, the form of bridge needs the basic requirements of passing function, as well as assignable aesthetic requirements. In other words, the city bridge should set material technology, scientific law and esthetics law in one.The research on the aesthetic requirements of bridge building can be generally divided into two levels. The first level is aesthetic aspect. Generally limited to the formal beauty, what the basic content needs is to apply the formal beauty rules to the bridge, in order to guide and evaluate the bridge design. Second, we can make bridge as a kind of art form based on traditional aesthetic theory, and discuss aesthetic properties of the bridge from objective and subjective, material and spiritual, universal and particular contexts in philosophy. When it comes to so-called social and structural beautiful contents, the research should belong to bridge aesthetics.This paper makes bridge as a building art, and research expressive abstract form and symbolic symbol of bridge building through applying the basic theory of art psychology and semiotics. The purpose is to explore function, science and technology attributes and aesthetic inner link of bridge building, and its relationship with the form of beauty. What it studies is aesthetic features or appearance of bridge building, rather than the aesthetic essence.The basic argument of this paper is that the bridge architectural art contains two aspects of abstract form and symbol, as well as other artistic styles such as music, painting, sculpture, dance, etc. The function of abstract form for aesthetic subject establishes on some physiological- psychological factual basis, making the pattern in the physiological field of brain as a medium with some sort of human emotional experience isomorphism, and thus expresses the emotional experience. The human emotional experience of abstract form is abstract neural "excitability", which is the universal human emotion. And bridge construction art contains reasoning symbol system and expressive symbol system as symbols, the former expresses meanings through causality, analogical and symbolic relationships between the symbol and the character(ideology or cultural fact), the latter is connected with a specific human emotion by association and empathy.Another major point of this article is that bridge construction has triple aesthetic psychological structure. The first is common physical- psychological structure, the second is cultural- psychological structure of groups, and the third is mental- emotional structure of the body(art creators and appreciators). The first psychological structure corresponds to the abstract form of the object, which is the geometric form element through the composition relationship(point body) and the formation of the whole link. The second psychological structure corresponds to practice attribute of the objective social life which is composed of the purpose(function) and regularity(scientific technique) of bridge construction as artificial engineering. The third psychological structure is the unity of the former two aesthetic psychological structures in the reality of aesthetic practice(creation and appreciation).In such an aesthetic speech frame about bridge construction art, exploring the form, techniques, function and inner link of bridge architectural art aesthetic will help us to completely understand the aesthetic characteristics of bridge construction art. The research method of this paper takes the aesthetic practice of bridge architectural art as the center, not only starting with the aesthetic questions in practice, but ending up with the solution to the aesthetic questions. For the four mainstream aesthetics, and the mature aesthetics theory in the post practical aesthetics such as life aesthetics, we take the attitude of reference and discard, neither completely excluded nor limited to a certain theory.Final results of research tend to think that beauty or aesthetic experience of bridge construction includes both universal human feelings based on the abstract form, and groups feelings based on object properties of the objective social life. With aesthetic experience of these two aspects in practical aesthetic practice, we unify the emotional psychological structure of the main body, and definitely the aesthetic requirements of the bridge building.
