The Laoshan reservoir, which is also known as Yuezikou reservoir, is one of the most important sources of drinking water in Qingdao. The Laoshan reservoir provide about 30 million cubic of meters to the Qingdao city, accounting for about 16% of the city’s total water supply. The quality of the water in Laoshan reservoir is an important aspect of social security and the stability of economy.However, due to the rapid economic development, the rapid expansion of the city,and the prosperity of the tourism industry, The Laoshan reservoir and its upper reaches have a series of environmental pollution problems, the quality of the water in Laoshan reservoir is getting worse and worse.Based on the contingent valuation method, this paper design a questionnaire, and conducted a questionnaire survey in Qingdao Shinan District, Laoshan District,Chengyang District, Licang District, Shibei District. There are 562 questionnaires in total, and 539 valid questionnaires recovered. After analyzing of those questionnaires,this paper draws the following conclusions: ①The public understanding of Laoshan reservoir is not high enough. There is 37.85 percent of respondent express that they do not know the situation of Laoshan reservoir. ②The public willingness to pay is relatively high, with 82.93% of the respondents are willing to pay a certain fee for ecological compensation of Laoshan reservoir. And after analyzed with the SPSS software, we can find the age, education and family income has a significant effect on the willingness to pay for ecological compensation. ③The average willingness to pay is 62.75 yuan for a people in a year, and the ecosystem service provided by Laoshan reservoir is 48.1929 million yuan in a year.According to the above conclusions, and combining with the status of Laoshan reservoir, this paper provides those following policy recommendations: ①Further strengthening the propaganda of environmental protection. ②Further improving the public environmental information system. ③Establish and improve the ecological compensation mechanism in Laoshan reservoir. ④Improving the infrastructure construction in the resource of Laoshan reservoir.
