With the rapid development of globalization, China’s economy ushered in the new construction appearance of cities, villages and towns in rural. Giant cities are still expanding day and night, more and more high buildings surrounded the city skyline, but the local memory of architecture is disappearing in the sight of people. The Chinese vernacular architecture closely tied up with its national history, religious belief, economic development and production mode. It exists in an orthodox official building system without the name of architects. However the Chinese vernacular architecture’s spatial form, structural style, material characteristics and architectural concept have profound humanistic value. They are essential inheritance and condensation of several generations’national craftsmen. In this paper, on the basis of previous studies and field investigations of Hainan province’s vernacular architecture, from the perspective of typology, we will analyze Hainan local architecture type with the usage of its relevant research methods and theories and discuss its type characteristics which are under the influence of regional architectural culture, economic model, natural environment and lifestyle factors. And also, do some other multidisciplinary research such as geography, historiography, ethnology and anthropology and so on.Hainan is the only island in China wich has tropical climate, its unique cimate feature has brought up the original ancestor of Li nationality, they use their simple natural and implicit ways of building to keep the harmonious relationship with the nature. With the progress of the history, in different periods population migrations happened on the island, because of this factor, a variety of culture flourished on the land, as well as, many kinds of vernacular architecture types rooted here and integrated with the diverse and unified culture of hainan Island. The hainan vernacular architecture is the participant of Hainan island’s historical process, it uses the architectural language to deduce the features of regional culture in hainan, it is also an important material culture heritage of Hainan island, its great research value is woth digging, and this is the original intention of this study.The full paper is divided into nine chapters, the first and second chapter summarizes the research background and the defination of research object. The third chapter clarified the concepts of "vernacular architecture" and "type". The fourth, fifth and sixth chapters are the focus of this paper, respectively from the architecture’s function, shape,structure and other aspects to induce its types by analyzing practical cases. The eighth chapter aims at summarizing the characteristics of hainan vernacular architecture types and providing innovative suggestions according to the current situation of vernacular architecture. The nine chapter is to summary the full text, and to analyze the aesthetic and creation significance of local architecture types, meanwhile, to explore the further urban planning and construction.
