Switched reluctance motor has advantages of rugged and simple construction. However, some of its disadvantages are torque ripple, vibration and noise problems caused by the torque ripple severely affect the performance of the switched reluctance motor. It limits its application in machining and electric vehicles and other fields.This paper summarizes the research done at home and abroad for the switched reluctance motor torque ripple problem. On the one hand, current research work is around the optimum design of motor body, analysis the structural parameters on motor performance. On the other hand, it revolves the study of new control strategies. This article focuses on optimizing the design of the motor body. The purpose of suppressing the torque ripple is done by optimizing the design of the stator and rotor tooth. First, though the switched reluctance motor structure and working principle, the motor size and structure of the various parts of the main parameters of selection and determination are discussed in detail. Then analyzed the mechanism of vibration, the main reason of the torque ripple is the radial forces. The mutation of motor radial force caused the motor housing deformed and vibration, constitute the main source of vibration and noise. So the radial force reduced can achieve the purpose of decrease the torque ripple.To reduce the problem of torque ripple, the two-dimensional and three dimension finite element calculations has been done for the motor, the experimental results showed the three-dimensional finite element analysis to calculate the motor flux current characteristic was correct. The simulation results could reflect the actual motor operating parameters. Maxwell tensor method was used to compare radial force wave and tangential force wave in air gap between the four different teeth. It is proved that the T-type rotor teeth could reduce the radial force wave integral area to achieve the purpose of decrease the torque ripple, and optimized the T-type rotor teeth parameter. Also the influence of rotor pole aces on torque characteristics was analyzed. By proper choice of the stator and rotor pole arcs for a given motor, can increase the torque output as much as possible, and obtain the minimum value of the torque ripple. At last optimized the stator teeth, it proved T-type stator teeth could improve starting torque, reduce torque ripple by three dimension finite element.
