Semantic Design Of Display Space

Museum exhibition space carries a dual function of exhibits display and exhibits interpretation, as compared with other types of space, more emphasis is attached on the transmission and expression of cultural connotation, as well as the interaction among space, time and people. Now with the contemporary museum construction styles getting more and more complex and exhibition activities getting more and more diversified, the exhibition space should be presented through new forms of thinking and semantic design, to build the appropriate space atmosphere, and guide potential visitors to interact with the surroundings with their body and mind.This paper discusses museum exhibition space design, the theory is based on the western and Chinese studies of space context, combined with the relevant principles of semantics and art forms, such as surrealism, expressionism, montage and others. It creatively put forward the connotation and characteristics of the exhibition space semantics design, and summarizes that the ultimate goal of exhibition space semantics design is to create a good display space and exhibition environment, to build the best display mode and display image, and to achieve harmony of people and machines and of interpersonal relations. On this basis, the semantic analysis method is adopted to investigate the space environment evaluation in real time; then the factor analysis method is used to conclude that emotional factor is the most important evaluation criteria. By exploring the relationship between the exhibition environment and the type of exhibits, the conclusion can be drawn that there are two expressions feature in contemporary exhibition space, neutral space and phenotype space. Based on these two spatial characteristics, this paper will respectively discuss the change trend and principles of exhibition space context construction.On the basis of exhibition environment feature and space context construction study, it is pointed out that the expression of neutral space semantics design is independent context and surreal context, while the mode of thinking of phenotype space semantic design is theming, narrative and situational. Finally, combined with design practice, this paper elaborates through four levels, which are subject positioning, ways of expression, situational expression and display application.
