With the development of economics and the standard of the people's life, power quality and reliability is wanted more. It becomes a problem that supervisory control and management automation of distribution. Distribution automation(DA) needs communication means reliable and effective, so that information and control signal can be transmitted among distribution control center, feeder automation substation and plenty of remote feeder terminal units. In this paper all kinds of communication are described in distribution automation. Character and applicability of different communication is analyzed in detail. Based on upwards discussion, spread spectrum communication is emphasized, application of which is investigated in CSDA2000 distribution automation system. Comparing the several spread spectrum schemes, PRISM chip set is chosen. Wireless local net (WLAN) project can be founded on spread spectrum communication in CSDA2000 distribution automation system. When selecting the controller, data transmission rate, interface and peripheral circuits are taken into consideration. And high-rate digital signal processor (DSP) ?TMS320F206 is pitched on. Then hard and soft projects are designed and debugged in the laboratory. At last, experiment result is analyzed, and amelioration is put forward.
