This paper has introduced a new type of media on the base of reviewing systematically the development of filtration and media filter. It is named iron ceramics media. Some systematical experiments and analyses on this media (d=0.5~1.2mm,K80<2.0,L=700mm) have been done in order to study its effect on removing impurity and organic pollutants from raw water. The comparison experiments of removing suspended matters from raw water between iron ceramics and sand media have been done firstly. The conclusion is that iron ceramics media has a lot of advantages over sand media in the fields of filter run and yield. It has good quality of little hydraulic pressure loss, longer period and capabilities of impurity. This paper has also created two equations of hydraulic pressure loss and clarify by analyzing experiment fruits of iron ceramics filter.Through the comparison experiments of removing organic pollutants from raw water between ceramics and sand media, it find that ceramics media's capability of removing organic pollutants from raw water is more better than that of sand's. This paper has discussed mechanism of removing organic pollutant of iron ceramics. As backwash is the key of renewing and keeping up the function of filter, so some factor optimization experiments of backwash have been done. The optimum operating parameters of air scour and water backwash of ceramics media are chosen by multiple factors experiments: qa=15 L/s·m2, qw=5 L/s·m2, t1=1min, t2=5min, t3=5min. The fruit of research is useful to smaller scale water plants to strengthen the function of traditional filter of remove of organic pollutants from micro-organic-polluted raw water.
