All along, solid clay brick is one of the main wall materials in our country . However solid clay bricks waste soil resources and do great damage to ecology environment , the technology of energy efficiency in buildings is a more and more attracting subject and has become a worldwide tendency. Technical personnel are eager to find the new wall materials, which can not only take place of the solid clay brick but also satisfy the requirement for the energy efficiency in buildings. Under the background of the wall material innovation and the energy efficiency in buildings, this paper advances a new idea that the Haojiao materials with lights weight and functions of heat preservation and insulation are filled into the cavities of common hollow betonblocks ,and a new kind of composite bearing and heat preserving block (composite block) comes into being.We does relative experiment research and theory calculation in both mechanical and thermal performance. In mechanics performance , we test that composite blocks can be used as bearing ones through doing experiments , analyzing the experiment data of composite blocks and comparing these data to small hollow betonblocks'. The experiments show all the compression strength shear strength, elastic modulus of the composite blocks and their masonry can satisfy the requirements of standard Compared to concrete ,the Haojiao materials elastic modulus is so low that we ignore it's improvement to the composite block's compression strength. However the area of horizontal mortar joint of composite block masonry is enlarged just because of the Haojiao materials' existence ,so the shear strength of composite block masonry is higher than one of small hollow betonblock masonryIn thermal performance , the heat-preservation and heat-insulation capabilities of composite block masonry are analyzed and researched. We calculate composite block masonry's heat transfer coefficients under different conditions ,then we discuss these data according to the energy efficiency criterion in Wuhan city and come up with the key factors which influence the thermal performance of composite block masonry,. At the end of this paper we summarize and look forward to the future of composite blocks in engineering practice in mechanics and thermal sides.
