Energy resources in our country are relatively scarce, the long-term energy supplyis facing severe challenges, especially it’s time to accelerate the process of urbanization, energy consumption will become higher and higher. So saving energy in theconstruction field and developing the green environmental building materials are ofgreat significance. The shale fired heat-insulation block has been developed, whichsatisfies the energy saving target of65%with the single wall material. The shale firedheat-insulation block use shale as the main raw materials. This block provides a goodheat preservation property and a dual effect of saving land resource and reducing energyconsumption. Meanwhile, a kind of special masonry mortar for this block has beendeveloped, which provides higher bond behavior. It satisfies the constructionrequirement of thin mortar joint. This paper mainly aims at the experimental study onthe compressive strength, shear strength, shear-compression composite shear strength ofthe shale fired heat-insulation block masonry.(1) The compressive strength of the shale fired heat-insulation block and thespecial masonry mortar is obtained by the experimental study on the shale firedheat-insulation block and the special masonry mortar.(2) The compressive failure characteristic of the shale fired heat-insulation blockmasonry is obtained by the compressive experiment on this masonry. Based on theanalysis of the experimental results, the calculation formula of the average value ofcompressive strength for the shale fired heat-insulation block masonry is put forward. The standard value and the design value of compressive strength for the shale firedheat-insulation block masonry are suggested. Based on the experimental data, thestress-strain relationship expression of the shale fired heat-insulation block masonry isput forward. The elastic modulus and the proposed value for the poisson’s ratio of thismasonry are given.(3) The shear failure characteristic of the shale fired heat-insulation block masonryis obtained by the shear experiment on this masonry. Based on the analysis of theexperimental results, the calculation formula of the average value of shear strength forthe shale fired heat-insulation block masonry is put forward. The standard value and thedesign value of shear strength for this masonry are suggested.(4) The shear-compression composite failure characteristic of the shale firedheat-insulation block masonry is obtained by the shear-compression compositeexperiment on this masonry. Based on the analysis of the experimental results, thecorrelative curve of shear-compression is given and compared with other curves.Thecalculation formula of the average value, the standard value, the design value ofshear-compression composite strength for the shale fired heat-insulation block masonryare put forward. The basic mechanical performance of the shale fired heat-insulation block masonryare mastered by the experimental study on the compressive strength, shear strength,shear-compression composite shear strength of this masonry, which provide basicmechanical experimental data for the follow-up study and the setting of relevantspecifications or codes for the shale fired heat-insulation block masonry.
