The study frame of traditional courtyard system is established in this thesis by the way of the rational analysis and typology, which is based on the space and culture. Also, the inheritance of the traditional courtyard is set as the goal in terms of the creativity of modern courtyard.According to the history of the traditional courtyard, the position of the traditional courtyard in Chinese classical architectures is revealed.Two aspects of noumenon type and space type are taken into consideration when the traditional courtyard is analyzed. The culture deeply contained in it is analyzed too and its building mechanism is distilled.Started with the design of the noumenon and space type, UK: transform way in today design based on the two aspects is discussed. Conceptions and skills in examples of current courtyards are used for reference.The main motivation of this research is to systematicalJy analyze traditional courtyard and to provide reference to today design.1. The Study of The Noumenon of Chinese Traditionalcourtyard1.1 Study Basis-the summarization of the correlated literatureFormerly studies aimed at Chinese traditional courtyard can be divided into two kinds, that is, laying the emphases on the shape or laying on the connotation. We will systematically study the conception, noumenon and space by the way of the modern architectural theory, and we will seek for the way to inherit and develop the traditional courtyard. 1.2 Study object-the explain of the courtyard conceptionFirstly, in narrow sense the courtyard means out-space limited by closed momentum and in broad sense it contains buildings and space which form it. Secondly, the courtyard that is the part of the whole building can mean both out-space and inner-space. The essence of the courtyard is defined by the history. Two aspects of momentum and space are included in its conception, which have materialized the existing purpose and value tropism of the courtyard.1.3 Study method-the import of the typologyThree aspects of typology are mainly used in architectural study, that is, the choice of the type, the disposal of the type and the relationship between the city form and typology. We have some reasons to study the traditional courtyard in the point of view of typology. Firstly, typology emphasized the combination of form and content is based on the tradition and history; secondly, typology provides academic and practical methods for the inheritance of the traditional courtyard; finally, typology pays attention to the study of the city form, which contributes to revealing the relationship between the city and thetraditional courtyard.II. The composing of Chinese Traditional Courtyard2.1 The building mechanism of Chinese Traditional courtyardThe traditional courtyard has multi-structure. It contains noumenon and space, which are deeply influenced by the lifestyle and culture. They are the rules to make up of the courtyard, so we can call them "The Courtyard Building Mechanism".2.2 The substance-the noumenon type of traditional courtyardThe Chinese traditional courtyard contains many architectural noumenon elements. By way of the typology method, eventually they can be induced to two types, namely, plane and point, and can be brought into the system as follow: 1. Vertical plane: single building and bounding wall ; 2.Horizontal plane: ground and water; 3.Point: architectural construction and natural scenery.2.3 The life style-the space type of traditional courtyardBased on the lifestyle contained in the traditional courtyard, we can divide it into four kinds: inhabitancy type, palace typo, gardens type and religion type. They all have different space characteristic.Inhabitancy type: 1. the space reflects right consciousness; 2. the out-space is in the middle of the building in most of this kind; 3. it has favorable private environment and half- private environment; 4. it can meet the men's need of approaching to the nature.Palace type: 1. it emphasizes the order of the surrounded b...
