At present, the electric power system of China is under reforming and deregulating. It provides the independent power plant owners with the challenges of improving their economies. For the purpose of this, the economies of operation and maintenance of a power plant are studied in the thesis. Some advanced theories, such as the traditional heat balance method, thermoeconomics method and the energy conservation potential diagnosis, are adopted to analyze the economy of a 200MW power generating unit installed in Jinzhou power plant. The on-line performance monitoring system is developed. The functions and key technology ideas are introduced in detail. Based on the performance analysis for a power generating unit, the method of dispatching loads during different units in the whole plant are studied. We utilize two methods to dispatch the loads, the equivalent differential increase method and the dynamic planning method. In the end, the basic theories of engineering economics are used to optimize the maintenance cycle in order to improve the economy of a power plant.
