The intersection is the key of the urban road. All traffic streams converge and turn at intersections, which often make them become the bottlenecks of the urban road. To keep the normal traffic movement, transportation researchers and practitioners carry out a lot of study and analysis of intersections based on practice. Traffic simulation is an important tool.At present, foreign simulation models are used widely because of the lack of mature simulation models in China. But the applicability of foreign simulation models is a problem without related research. This paper attempts to have some contribution on it. Aiming at the problem, being two representative and widely used microscopic traffic simulation models, the applicability of CORSIM (TSIS4.32) and SIMTRAFFIC (SYNCHRO 5.0) is studied in this paper. In this paper, both the motor-vehicles models and non-motor-vehicles models are studied. The applicability of non-motor-vehicles models are evaluated and compared with the field survey in three aspects: arrival of vehicles, discharge of vehicles and change of velocity. The applicability of non-motor-vehicles models are evaluated and compared with the field survey in four aspects: average queue, maximum queue, delay and volume. The simulation result shows that the motor-vehicles modals of CORSIM and SIMTRAFFIC can apply to Beijing, but the models of pedestrian and bicycles are not perfect when the total number of pedestrians and bicycles reach 1150 (bikes peds/h). As a result, developing a set of traffic models based on mixed traffic is in urgent need.In addition, the car-following model and lane-changing model of CORSIM and SIMTRAFFIC are presented. |
