Belt conveyors are the major equipments of bulk transport. With the development of the technology, it has been the main trend for the development of belt conveyors to use the long distance, large capacity, high-speed one to handle bulk solids. One of the critical problems is how to deal with the dynamic stress of belt conveyors under high-speed condition during take-up or stopping. But the traditional static design method is based on statics and seldom contains guidelines for incorporating the dynamic behavior of the moving belt. Large safety factors are employed to accommodate most dynamic stresses in the belt. This can not only increase total cost but also give rise to system instability and higher dynamic stresses that can damage the belt, drums, idlers, bearings and other parts of the conveyor. Using dynamic analysis method can optimize parameters obtained from static design, increase system running stability, safety factor and total cost can also be minimized.This paper puts forward a dynamic analysis method on belt conveyor through carefully study on belt conveyor system. The unified expression of conveyor belts' moving behavior has been obtained. The models contain the dynamic continuous one and the discrete one. In the dynamic equation both the viscoelasticity properties of belt, the run resistance, the inertia force of take-up, the belt's elastic modulus influented by the deflection of belt and the initial stress have been considered. The program scheduled in this paper has simulated several event including different layout of take-up and various starting accelerations curves. At the same time, the laboratory experiment has done to do the confirmation. This paper has also compared the result of dynamic analysis with the statics method's result to reflect the advantage of dynamic study. At the result, the result of dynamic analysis has been used to design the belt conveyor dynamically.
