That both the structure and material of concrete dams and construction means of earth dams are used in roller compacted concrete dams make RCC dam increasingly used in water engineerings. The technique of RCCD was used to construct dams in 1970s .It is easy to control temperature and saves time, money and concrete. This paper introduces the characteristics and development trend of RCC dams and explains the calculation theory of temperature field and temperature stress field of RCC dam, and also clculates the temperature field and temperature stress field of Baise roller compacted concrete (RCC) gravity dam in Guangxi province during construction and operation.Three-dimension finite element floating mesh method is used to calculate the temperature field and thermal stress of RCCD. The calculation mesh and step along with dam pouring process change from small mesh and step to large ones regularly. In this way it can save time and memory, and also can cosider the effect of lamination placement of RCC dam.According to the difference of construction process, boundary condition and monolith, the temperature field and thermal field of two schemes are calculated, and the isoline map of stable temperature field and the isoline map of unstable temperature field during construction and operation are drawn respectively. The change curve along with time of σ , σ y and σ z of typical points in the central line of the height 3m and 15m of dam and the distribution curve along with height of dam of the maximal σx,σy and σz are drawn in Excel software.Through the analysis and comparison of the results .reasonable construction scheme is selected.
