Over the recent years, the completed residential housing areas in China have exceeded 10 billion square meters per year. And such increase is expected to continue for a long period. However, the great increase has been achieved at the expense of heavy energy consumption and serious pollution. So the modernization of the housing industry is a vital move to transform itself from extensive production model to intensive model, and to improve the quality of residential building. China is one of the largest steel producer in the world with an annual output reaching over 1 billion tons. The kinds and sizes of steel product are increasing day by day. This has laid a solid material foundation for developing steel-structured residential housing. Steel-structured residential housing is environment-friendly and meets the requirement for a sustained development. Furthermore, it's easier for the process of industrialization, production standardization, and installation. There are less wet operation and pollution on the construction site, which is conducive to environment protection. Steel-structured residential housing also has advantages in many other ways. The construction speed is high (construction period can be shortened by a half or 1/3). The layout is flexible and the occupied net area increases by 8%. It's light, about a half or 3/5 of the weight of concrete structure. The total cost is lower, too. It's an ideal residential construction system for modernizing our housing industry. Meantime, developing steel-structured residential housing can promote the developments of building material industry,steel industry,chemical industry,mechanical industry and so on. It can also increase our GDP. Developing steel-structured residential housing accords with our housing industry policy.The technology to construct steel-structured residential building has been developed. The system of such house includes main structure system, roof system, exterior and interior wall system, floor system and so on. The different system of such house has its own capability, merit or demerit. Each system comforts to different construction condition.The experimental constructions of such houses have been going on in some place. These houses have win a good comments in market. They will have a huge demand in the future. However, what are the ways and means to boost the industrialization ofsteel-structured residential housing? This thesis suggests setting up an operation model in which the government will provide the policy guidance, enterprise groups will carry out the policy, and the industry base of the residential housing will be the carrier. Up to now, no relevant thesis on the same topic has been published yet.
