Magnetic bearings have a series of advantages which involve nonfriction, high speed, high precision etc, so it is widely applied in industries. With the development of magnetic bearing technology, the manufacturing and series design are the necessary direction. Under this condition, developing a virtual design software system which can realize functions such as structure design, performance analysis and dynamic simulation is an effective method to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of the design of magnetic bearing. The structure design is the foundation of electromagnetism calculation, control system's design and other analysis, so we should take much count of the virtual design of magnetic bearings' structure.The principles and the development of active magnetic bearing (AMB), passive magnetic bearing (PMB), hybrid magnetic bearing (HMB), and their applications in industries are put forward. Based on the summing-up of the structure design of active magnetic bearing, the design principles and the optimum theory for PMB and HMB are respectively expounded, and two suits of magnetic bearing lab devices system have been designed by the author.The structure design principles and methods of the magnetic bearing's rotors have been researched. We implement dynamic simulation and optimum design on the rotors of magnetic bearing using virtual prototype technology which are based on the setting up of the rotor's mechanics model, and the influence that the bearing characteristics act on the flop of the end of the rotor have been analyzed.The virtual design software system for magnetic bearings has been generalized, and the integration between the structure module, magnetic and temperature fields' analysis module, control system simulation module has been expounded. At the end, the realization of the parametric drawing and the coupling between mechanism and electron are also discussed.The developing trend of magnetic bearings in the future is prospected based on the conclusion of the whole article in the end.
