Due to serious soil and water loss during road construction, the rational design of soil and water conservation in the road engineering becomes more and more important. Discussed in this thesis are the key issues related to soil and water conservation in Dandong-Zhuanghe highway construction which is one of important technical problems in this major engineering project. Firstly, the basic data of the construction project and natural condition, social and economical states along the highway line are systematically investigated. Then, the fundamental contents and methodologies of prediction of soil and water loss in road construction project are examined. Furthermore, on the basis of consultancies, inquiries and evaluations from multiple sources, the model for predicting soil and water loss in Dandong-Zhuanghe highway construction is developed. Moreover, considering the characteristics of the highway, the covering area of the project is divided into three parts such as main body area, soil-fetching area and soil-spoiling area. For these three preventive areas, the perfect precaution measures for preventing and curing the soil and water loss during the road construction in which a number of vegetal cover measures are taken. The effectiveness of vegetal cover for conservation of soil and water is demonstrated. Through the present studies, the key issues related to Dandong-Zhuanghe highway construction are solved in particular, and the findings and results gained from the research will be, in general, helpful to other similar construction projects.
