| Qi-lou : "A kind of building form, lies in the rainy and torrid south area, it makes a part of the ground floor into colonnade for walk and shield from rain and sunlight. " This kind of building type is widely distributed over Southeast Asia and south cities and towns in our country. Some scholars in Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Japan have deeply studied the origin and distributing of Qi-lou. Actually, in the region with abundant Qi-lou, Qi-lou is their life scene, the warm and deep memory of the city, even it has become subconscious being. Continuing Qi-lou has meaning of both substance and culture."Modern" and "contemporary" are two age background the research bases on. They are similar on the course of culture. The problem brings by encounter of the east and the west, emerge today once again. What the modern architects think and how about the modern architecture are all worth referring today.QuanZhou, famous for its history and culture in China, possesses of splendid heritage of modern Qi-lou. From 1990s, QuanZhou also builds so many contemporary new Qi-lou, they are all in use now. Track to the building having been erected is the same important to the design itself. By great field survey, mapping and collecting, the thesis analyses and compares the modern Qi-lou with the contemporary Qi-lou, tries to give a more clear concept to the Modern and Contemporary Qi-lou in QuanZhou and search for some inspiration to today' s new Qi-lou design.The thesis analyses through 3 aspects: Forming background, Style character and Spatial composition, The main points of the thesis are as follows:1) The Comparison of Forming background between Modern and Contemporary Qi-lou in QuanZhou.2) The Comparison of Style character between Modern and Contemporary Qi-lou in QuanZhou.3) The Comparison of Spatial composition between Modern and Contemporary Qi-lou in QuanZhou.4) The new styles of contemporary Qi-lou are various today, but the explore measure is unconscious and immature.
