In our country, 2/3 of the cities are mountain cities, most of them are located in middle-west area, which is in the primary developing urbanization stage. Urbanization is a double -edged straight sword. On the one hand, it promoted the development of city greatly, on the other hand, it brings out a series of problems and crises about cities. 21th century is the century of cities. 2/3 of all the cities in our country is in poor mountain area county, at the same time, our country is going to enter the developing middle stage of urbanization, face to the great project 'Opening up and developing the west', how vast mountain city live in the process of rapid urbanization will be a serious problem which is related to development of the economy of our country . Under the premise of the fast development of mountain cities, how to solution the contradiction between the city expansion with the short of land, between the development of cities and the coordination of environment, between the internal space and countryside region, have both important realistic and theoretical significance.This article research the motive mechanism of spacial expansion,the pattern of moutain cities spatial expansion.This article is totally divided into six chapters. It takes urbanization as background, and takes mountain cities as research objects, and takes spatial form as clues.lt analysis by synthesis the natural factor and humanistic factor and builds up the motive mechanism of spacial expansion and research the four appropriate pattern of spacial expansion: the layer expansion mode, the axis expansion mode, the centralized mode, the jumping expansion mode.
