IEC61850 is an international standard for the future substation automation communication system, have reflected the developing direction and trend of substation automation communication, cause the extensive concern of the domestic and international power industry. What has been researched in this article is as follows, mainly about the IEC61850 series standard.Have introduced the background of IEC61850; introduced each part and function of IEC6850 in detail. Analyse the feather of IEC61850 and the progress agreed to make at present. Compare IEC61850 with several protocols about substation automation system communication, which have already been used at present.Compared with the present substation automation communication system structure, have analyzed the three levels communication architecture of IEC61850, analyzed the implementation method, bring forward the main architecture to be studied according to the actual conditions at present of power industry. Study the object-oriented technology and object models that used in IEC61850; provide UML model and tree level expression. '.Study the static configuration process of substation automation system, and the method to make static configuration description files by using substation configuration description language based on XML. Have set up a experiment model of substation automation system non-real-time network communication by using HTTP XML and VC.Study something about system management and conformance test concerned in IEC61850, suggest to using XML database as the main way for data store in the substation automation system. Since IEC61850 is still under discussion, to the standard development trend and implementation prospect to analyze and looks into the distance.
