Research on telecommunication of power system is popular in the power industry. Telecommunication technology of power system advances with the development of IT technology (such as computer and telecommunication). For example, nowadays the up-to-date telecommunication technology has its use in power system. The telecommunication standard of power system is an important part of power system telecommunication technology and plays an increasingly important part. The standard IEC61850 is an in-substation standard being established by IEC. The draft of IEC61850 has been published , and the final edition will be published in 2004.It is believed that the publication of IEC61850 will promote the development of substation and power system automation technology. The thesis focuses on the research of IEC61850. Besides, it has done some experimental work of IEC61850.According to the draft of IEC61850, some technologies such as OOM (object oriented model), MMS(manufacturing message specification,ISO9506), DDE(dynamic data exchange) and OPC(ole for process control)are involved .The thesis has done some experimental work with them. Besides, the thesis has also introduced a Java-based substation HMI system.The final edition of IEC61850 has not been published, so my work can only be seen as an experiment. I wish my work would benefit the future researcher.
