Conventional power system stabilizer (CPSS) has such shortcoming as complex design, fussy parameter testing, poor adaptability and so on. In this article formula fuzzy control algorithm is put into the design of PSS. Quantified factors and modifying factors, which have large effect on the performance of formula FPSS, are optimized. A self- optimization fuzzy power system stabilizer (SOPPSS) is designed. In order to overcome formula inherent shortcomings of poor steady-state performance and micro-amplitude oscillation, continuous factors multiplication method is combined with formula method. Simulation of computer and dynamic experiments show: The SOFPSS has such characteristics as small overshoot, fast response speed, avoidable micro-amplitude oscillation and is not sensitive to changes of operating modes and external disturbances.
