This paper introduces the utilization and development condition of fault recorder, analyses the defects of various types of fault recorders which being used in many of china' s transformer substations. More sophisticated technology based on DSP chip is employed in the new type of fault recorder developed by author and his colleagues, so many of shortcomings can be got rid of.The hardware and software characteristics of new type microprocessor-DSP are also discussed, because they have the direct relationship with the improvement of our new type fault recorder. The hardware configure and signal flowing of this new device are also referred.In the fourth chapter, the regulation of starting fault record prescribed by electric power ministry is introduced. Thoroughly studying on the algorithm of starting has been made in the fifth chapter, and figures out those algorithms that can be applied in the developing of this new type fault recorder.In the last chapter, this paper discusses the developing of software in detail. Describes the construction of program and function of program modules. The flow charts of several main modules of this program are also given.
