Aiming at some problems existing in switched reluctance motor(SRM), such as torque ripple, acoustic noise and optimizing performance index, the prototype design of SRM drive system has been achieved by experimenting on a SRM(12/4) in this paper. On the basis of the analysis of SRM torque model, a new control strategy is presented which solves the torque smooth transition in the process of commutation, thus reducing toque-ripple effectively. An online control scheme of the strategy is discussed in detail. The reduction of torque-ripple decreases the noise of motor effectively. Considering the typical nonlinear characteristics of SRM drive system which make the constant parameters of traditional controller unable to adapt to the random disturbance parameters in a large scale, the fuzzy control is introduced to improve its performance. A fuzzy self-tuning controller is designed, which can adjust parameters automatically and improve its static and dynamic performance.Considering the above control strategies which make the controller can not be real-time processing because its workload has increased, control circuits of the main switches based on EPROM are designed, which can implement control scheme of firing angles and phase voltage. Furthermore, it avoids power converter saturation in the process of commutation. Simulation and experimental results prove that the prototype design of the system is reasonable, and the torque ripple can be reduced, and the system′s performance can be improved.
