In order to strengthen their compatibility in economy and technology, and make the codes of fire safety adapt to the need of design and construction, many countries began to develop the performance-based code of buildings in resent 20 years.Based on analyzing some FHA models and some performance-based computer models, this thesis presents the main mathematic model and basic frame of the performance-based model; develops the smoke model that can analyze the fluid of smoke in buildings fires; makes a performance-base design for a building with a large atrium.1. This thesis presents a mathematic model and basic frame of the performance-based design method, resolves the most valuable problem in developing a complete and fine performance-based model.2. This thesis established a smoke flow model and to the frame of the performance-based design. This model can analyze the smoke flow and the heat transferring information in building fires.3. This thesis presents a way to evaluate the safety of a smoke control system design, that is to judge the safety of the building by analyzing some indexes. These indexes include the critical velocity, the pressure value , and the height of the smoke layer. If all the indexes are in the acceptable scope, the fire-preventing design can be regarded as a safe one.This thesis will have the important meaning to develop a complete and accurate computer model in performance-design in future.
