Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Starter/Generator integrates the function of starting engine and generating electricity and also has the character of simple strong structure, excellent electrical performance and high speed capability. This thesis is devoted to the theoretical study and engineering practice on 12/8 pole Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Starter/Generator system. The paper mainly analyzes starting characteristics and armature reaction of Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Starter/Generator, implements Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Motor digital control system and accomplishes the simulation research on the rotor position estimation of Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Motor.Firstly, the basic structure and operation principle of Doubly Salient Motor is introduced in this paper. Then, this thesis studies the starting engine character of Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Starter/Generator, analyzes the IGBT off-angle influence on stator current and also presents simulation results and experimental waveforms. The paper builds the generator simulation model in MATLAB and analyzes the stator current influence on stator voltage. Test and simulation results are shown at the same time. Basing on the analysis of Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Motor theory, the paper has accomplished hardware and software design of Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Motor digital control system and also experiments with prototype. Then, experimental results are shown and demonstrate the correctness of the theoretical study and digital simulation.The thesis also studies a kind of method of Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Motor rotor position estimation, analyzes the possibility of Doubly Salient Electro-Magnetic Motor sensor-less control and presents simulation results at last.
