With the rapid development in computer technology, the traditional earthquakedamage prediction of the buildings and seismic hazards assessment need to bedeveloped at the same time. Geographic Information System (GIS), an advanced technology, integratescomputer science, informatics, geography and others. It has been widely used innatural resource development, environmental protection, city planning, disastermonitoring and evaluation, etc. Capacity spectrum method is an approach of simplifying the structural dynamicanalysis. It is a convenient and effective method for seismic capacity evaluation sinceit performs the structural non-linear response analysis based on some simplecalculations. This paper focuses on the application of Geographic Information System in civilengineering. The advantage and disadvantage of existing earthquake damageprediction methods are discussed. The advantage and steps of seismic capacityevaluation using capacity spectrum method are introduced. The data of tall buildingsand related geographic information are collected and stored in computer databasesystems. Earthquake demand spectrum of Tianjin is established based on the resultsof seismic zoning. Finally, a computer management system of earthquake damageprediction of tall buildings using GIS and capacity spectrum method is developed.
