Under breaking wave impact, the possible motions of caisson breakwaters includevibrating, sliding, rocking and vibrating-sliding-rocking coupled motion. In this paper,the dynamic responses of caisson breakwater are studied. For the four types ofpossible motions of caisson breakwaters, a dynamic analysis model of caissonbreakwaters under breaking wave impact is founded and a numerical method ispresented, which can be used to simulate the motions of caisson breakwaters. A smallscale model test is designed, which can be used to examine the dynamic analysismodel and numerical method.The main content included in the paper is as follows:1. The dynamic responses of caisson breakwaters under breaking wave impact are studied, a dynamic analysis model with a mass-damper-spring system is founded and a numerical analysis method is developed to simulate the four types of possible motions of caisson breakwaters.2. Many kinds of theories and methods that have been used to compute the dynamic parameters of breakwaters are summarized and studied here, a suitable computing method is determined for this paper.3. A small scale model test is designed for this study. The dynamic parameters of the caisson breakwater system such as the hydrodynamic mass, the spring constants of foundation and the damping coefficients of foundation are obtained through the experiment ï¼› and the histories of breaking wave impact and caisson's displacements in different depth of water can also been obtained.4. By contrasting the results of experiments with the results of theory, it is concluded that the results of theory are identical with the results of experiments, which proves that the dynamic analysis model and method are believable.
