Urban expressways especially the ring roads are of great importance in urbantransportation system. However, with the increasing number of automobile the urbantransportation system has become worse and worse, so it's difficult for urbanexpressways to exert their predominance. Now what we should do is to takeefficiency measure to increase the capacity of the urban expressways. However, exitsalways become the bottleneck of the expressways. At present, transportation researchers have done much research on merge areasand interurban expressways. Not any research has been done on diverge areas ofurban expressways. To increase the capacity of the urban expressways we must findout the sticking points on them. In this paper,German microsimulation software——VISSIM is calibrated andvalidated through a field survey. Then nine factors that may influence the capacity ofthe urban expressways are evaluated and corresponding improving measures arebrought.
