The efficiency and safety of container loading and unloading are important factors of container shipping. So we need to strengthen the training of crane operator to develop their operation technique. Using computer graphics technology, the Container Crane Loading Simulator System is developed to provide the operator with a nearly real visual system and operation condition. With it they can perform all kinds of basic operation training. Furthermore, we can add many emergency incidents to the system, set atrocious weather such as rain, snow, fog and wind, and simulate different types of container crane to carry out all-sided training. Compared with traditional training system, the simulator can not only develop the training quality, but also reduce the training cycle, and put an end to incident arose by training without affect the normal work of harbor. With computer Simulation technology, graphics technology, and visual reality technology, the prototype machine of Container Crane Loading Simulator System is developed based on the photos, operator manual and design drawing. The key work of the paper involves:a. The design of 3D scene model library, including using Multigen Creator to setup visual harbor environment, the whole model of container crane is designed with the same size with actual crane and the visual equipment in cab, whose texture is processed with Photoshop. The paper also introduce the data structure of Openflight(.flt) and some key technologies in model designing in detail.b. The real time engine of a visual system is developed with OpenGVS 4.5, which take charge of scene management, model driving and control interface with keyboard. All of these can achieve the basic operating function of simulator system.c. The author builds up the real time Equation of Motion for models include the shadow of spreader, the gantry and the hoist. The spreader motion model to simulate how it sways when wind blows it or the hoist speeds up and how it performs convergent sway under the control of electronic anti-sway is also includedd. Using spherical projection system to make the simulator system with more reality and depth-feel.
