In present dissertation, a special monitoring system has been developed for a 10-meters, 10.5-kV, 1.5-kA, 3-phase high-temperature superconducting (HTS) cable system. In the monitoring system, electrical and cryogenic data are collected by dedicated sensors scanned by distributed module and the digital voltmeter connected via cable and RS-232 port or GPIB port to a personal computer based, data acquisition system using the LabVIEW program. The system can perform a real-time monitor on the temperature of the tape material in the HTS cable and the pressure of the liquid nitrogen running in the circulating cooling system whenever the cable is pre-cooled or carrying high current. Also, the carried current and the electrical potentials at the selected points of the HTS cable can be exactly detected by the system, and the AC loss of the HTS cable are presented. All these measurement results set a reliable foundation on the further research of the relation between HTS cable performance and corresponding parameters and thus the optimal operational conditions. At the same time, after comparing several doable plans of temperature measurement at low temperature (77 K) and high voltage (15 kV), platinum- 100 resistance thermometer with optical fiber transportation was applied. This metrical technology can be integrated into the existing monitoring system for the 10-meters, 10.5-kV, 1.5-kA, 3-phase HTS cable system. And it provides a feasible method for other parameter that need measured at high voltage.
