Though investigation study of many papers and publications, basic characteristics of MgB2, the new found superconducting material are approximately known. Its stability problem is analyzed using its characteristics. The suitable wire is selected according to the stability and manufacture development, and a 2T direct current magnet is designed. Its quenching is simulated by solving PDE. Due to the operating-temperature difference between the new material and traditional Nb3Sn and Nb-Ti, Its characteristic cannot be easily expressed by a lineal function. For this new magnet, all the coefficients in the PDE are complicatedly varied to ensure its accuracy. A protection circuit is designed according to its quench characteristic. The protection can be accurately and effectively operated.
