With the discovery of high temperature superconductors and continuous emergence of new high temperature superconducting materials, Superconducting technology is finding variety of applications increasingly widespread. However in practical application, particularly in the large current systems, quench of superconductive devices is a serious problem, which directly endanger the security of devices and systems. The research to quench characteristic for HTS is an important problem. Our lab has carried through a lot of experiments for that, analyzed experiment datum, and gained some results.Firstly, on the experiment datum processing, because of demand for sampling with high accuracy in experiments and specific curve, processing experimental datum as the basic skills is particularly important to superconductor experiment. The paper has summarized three methods to processing experimental datum: the least square method and filter method,wavelet transformation method.Secondly, the paper presents HTS magnet's quench mechanism, and the discovery of quench resistance characteristics of high temperature superconducting, through analyzing and summarized high temperature superconducting tape AC experiment datum, and quench characteristics are investigated using pulsed current waveforms.Thirdly, the paper has studied n-value which is a proper parameter of HTS by experiment. N-value reflects homogeneity of HTS and can be used to predict the critical current; n-value is an important parameter of high temperature superconductor.Finally, the quench protect system is indispensable part of SMES, and the paper has designed the project of the quench detection voltage bridge circuit and protection of superconducting magnet, which can detect quench of partial magnet.
